An 18-year-old from Chunabhatti lost Rs 2.2 lakh to cyber fraudsters while trying to buy tickets for a Coldplay concert in January 2025.

Initially, he paid Rs 7,000 via UPI for one ticket after finding a seemingly legitimate contact number online. When his friends also wanted tickets, they collectively paid Rs 2.17 lakh for 24 tickets.
The scammers sent a fake email confirmation from ‘[email protected],’ which looked similar to the official BookMyShow domain.
Suspicion arose when a relative pointed out issues with the email address.
Realising they had been scammed, the group filed a complaint with the police. Meanwhile, the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) started a preliminary inquiry after advocate Amit Vyas accused BookMyShow of ticket scalping.
